The US government prepares a sanctions decree against Turkish officials, will stop trade negotiations and increase steel tariffs by 50 percent.
This was announced by US President Donald Trump, in response to Ankara’s offensive against Syria.
“US troops leaving Syria will now deploy and remain in the region to monitor the situation and avoid the repetition of 2014, when the unattended threat of the Islamic State spread through Syria and Iraq,” Trump said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Russian-backed Syrian forces entered Kurdish territory on the border with Turkey, less than 24 hours after Washington announced the complete withdrawal.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan launched Operation Peace Spring last week, an attack on the Kurdish militia, which he considers terrorist.
